HSA Response to Cyclone Nargis Affected People of Burma

On 2 nd May, 2008, Burma’s Irrawaddy Delta was struck by the wrath of Cyclone Nargis, inflicting a wave of material and human destruction, suffering and loss. Over 134,000 people are estimated to have died and thousands more have been affected in the aftermath of the disaster. Human Security Alliance (HSA) has engaged to address this emergency promptly and proactively. This report focuses on the background of the disaster in the Irrawaddy Delta, the critical reasons for HSA to mount an emergency response, the opportunity for long-term engagement and the various lessons learnt from this endeavor such as the need to setup a HSA Emergency Strategy among others. Burma the State of Human Security: the Regional Conference Report

Human Security Alliance (HSA) organized the first human security conference on Burma on April 9, 2007. The daylong conference has brought nearly eighty participants from different parts of South and Southeast Asia. Joint Statement on Burma

Human Security Alliance (HAS) along with the Asian and European participants to the 8th informal Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) seminar on human rights, “freedom of expression”, gathered in Seam Reap, Cambodia, note with great concern the recent developments in Myanmar/Burma. In particular, we condemn the violence that has claimed the lives of demonstrators. We call on the government to exercise restraint and respect the rights of all Burmese to freedom of assembly and to the peaceful expression of their views and opinions, in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
